Moving question, landlord penalty for leaving furniture and not cleaning.?

I have a bunch of worthless junk in my apartment and already plan on my landlords keeping my deposit. They know I'm moving out by the end of the month. Can they penalize me for leaving A LOT of stuff there like couches and sofas and things? BTW, I haven't signed a lease in quite a while.
