What do you think of hunger strikes, as a form of protest?

Some IRA member imprisoned in England (the England part of the United Kingdom, not Ireland) went on a hunger strike for some reason or another. I think he made 79 days . . . and then died. His captors were fine with his suicide and figured that was one less terrorist to have to watch. The case of Roxana depends, therefore, on international pressure on her behalf to "force" Iranians to care about her condition, lest they lose esteem in the eyes of non-Moslems. And I put it that way to indicate my expectation of a response. I think the Moslems will care even less about a Dhimmi's opinion than the British "cared" about an Irish murderer. Sometimes a hunger fast can work, but it requires that someone, somewhere, have some amount of shame, and I've seen an amazing decrease in that quality over the last two decades.
